Crop PDF Online with PDFToolkits
Crop PDF with PDFToolkits to reduce the visible area around document content. Set top, bottom, left and right margins independently, then apply those settings to every page or a selected range.
This is useful when scans have wide borders or when you want readers to focus on a smaller part of a page. The tool changes the visible page boundary without converting the document into images.
Cropping is not redaction. Content outside the cropped area remains in the PDF and may be recovered. Use a dedicated redaction workflow when information must be permanently removed.
Why Use Our Crop PDF Tool?
Four Margin Controls
Set each edge from 0% to 49%. Percentages are measured against the existing visible page area.
Selected Page Ranges
Crop all pages or enter a selection such as 1, 3-5. Unselected pages keep their original boundaries.
Rotated Page Support
The margin directions follow the page as it appears when viewed, including right-angle rotations.
Local File Processing
The crop operation runs on your device. Your PDF is not sent to a server for processing.
Keep PDF Content
Cropping changes visibility rather than rasterizing the page. It does not deliberately remove underlying content.
No Desktop Installation
Use a modern browser and download a separate result, keeping your original PDF available.

When Is This PDF Tool Useful?
- Scanned notes: trim large visible borders around the useful page content.
- Research figures: focus the visible page on a figure while retaining your original source separately.
- Handouts: reduce excess margins before preparing reading material.
- Mixed documents: adjust only the pages that need a tighter visible boundary.
A Practical Example
For a visible page 200 mm wide, a 5% left margin and a 5% right margin hide 10 mm on each side. The new visible width is 180 mm. With pages set to 2, 4-6, only those four pages are cropped. Start with small margins and review the result so text near an edge is not hidden.
Crop PDF Features and Limitations
The tool leaves at least 5% of each page dimension visible. Cropping may not reduce file size because hidden content remains stored in the document. It cannot automatically detect white space or remove private text. Repeated cropping applies to the current visible area, so keep an original copy.
- Process one unencrypted PDF up to 50 MB.
- Use individual page numbers and ranges, or leave the selection blank for all pages.
- Download a separate output and keep your original file.
- Use Reset to clear the selected file and start again.
Review important documents after processing. Editing a digitally signed PDF can invalidate its signature. Large or complex files may exceed the memory available on your device.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Crop PDF free?
Yes. PDFToolkits provides this browser-based crop tool free of charge, with a 50 MB limit per file.
Does cropping permanently delete content?
No. It changes the visible page boundary. Hidden text or images may still be recovered, so cropping must not be used as redaction.
Can I crop only selected pages?
Yes. Enter individual page numbers and ranges, such as 1, 3-5. Leave the field blank to crop all pages.
How are the margins measured?
Each margin is a percentage of the current visible page width or height. Directions follow the displayed page orientation.
Will cropping reduce PDF file size?
Not necessarily. The underlying content is retained, so the file may stay a similar size or become larger after saving.
Can I undo the crop?
Keep the original file so you can start again. This tool does not provide an undo or restore-crop control.
Can I crop password-protected PDFs?
The tool requires an unencrypted PDF. Use an authorized unlocked copy of your document.
Are my files uploaded to PDFToolkits?
No. This crop operation processes your selected PDF in your browser. The browser needs an internet connection to load the tool library.
